Why sustainably produced clothes?2020-10-27T11:18:35+01:00

The manufacture of textiles is often associated with significant negative effects on people and the environment whether in cotton cultivation the further processing of the fabrics, the production and refinement of the end products through to transport and disposal. The public is also showing increasing interest and awareness of environmental and social issues. By using sustainable materials and fair working conditions in Portugal we have set ourselves the goal of acting responsibly in terms of sustainability.

What is GOTS?2022-03-25T09:50:26+01:00

The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is one of the world’s leading standards for the production of sustainable clothing. It defines both high ecological and social requirements for the entire production chain. This includes the use of natural fibers, processing, assembly, packaging, labeling as well as trade and distribution.

It guarantees that the natural fibers come from organically controlled cultivation and that no genetically modified seeds are used. In addition the use of chemicals at all processing stages is controlled for example harmful substances such as pesticides, fertilizers and insecticides that are dangerous for the environment and health are prohibited. This applies e.g. also for the use of chemicals during the dyeing and printing of the fabrics.

The GOTS standard distinguishes between two label levels. The only criterion for the grading is the minimum proportion of organic fibers used. For products that are marked with GOTS, this is at least 95%. Products marked with “made from” have a minimum share of 70%.

The social standards include compliance with the United Nations principles for business and human rights as well as the core standards of the ILO and IECD. These are e.g. fair wages towards living wages, voluntary employment, freedom of association and the right to collective bargaining, no child labor, no discrimination, safe and hygienic working conditions, prohibition of rough or inhuman treatment, regulated working hours, no precarious employment and equal treatment.

Why should I have my clothes GOTS certified?2020-10-27T11:20:17+01:00

GOTS is one of the well-known and widely used textile labels. The aim of the label is to establish a globally uniform, controllable, social and ecological standard that encompasses the entire production chain and makes it comprehensible. By using GOTS, you are campaigning for a transparent and responsible textile industry. In addition by attaching the label to the end product, the added value for consumers can be made directly visible.

Wow can i use labels and advertise with them?2020-10-27T11:20:34+01:00

GOTS, OEKO-TEX® 100 Standard and PETA-Approved Vegan can be attached directly to the product if the end product meets the relevant criteria and is certified and can be used for advertising purposes on websites, online shops and communication channels.

Which sustainable materials do you use?2020-10-27T11:21:06+01:00

Since the cultivation and production of raw materials often have negative consequences for the environment, we are increasingly using more environmentally friendly alternatives such as organic cotton, recycled polyester and viscose fibers.

Why organic cotton?2022-03-25T09:58:18+01:00

Growing organic cotton significantly reduces the negative impact on the environment. In addition to the ban on chemical fertilizers and pesticides, the use of genetically modified seeds is also prohibited. Compared to conventional cultivation up to 90% less water is used in organic cultivation and around half of CO2 emissions are saved.

Therefore the negative consequences of the use of organic cotton on the environment but also on the cotton farmers are lower.

Why recycelt Polyester?2020-10-27T11:16:37+01:00

Recycled polyester is mainly made from old PET bottles and food packaging. By melting down and cleaning, new yarns can be spun. The advantage of recycling materials is the low consumption of resources due to the use of existing materials.

Why viscose fibers?2022-03-25T09:48:33+01:00

LENZING ™ ECOVERO ™ fibers are made from certified renewable wood sources and are biodegradable. The manufacturing process is carried out in compliance with the high environmental standards of the EU Ecolabel. This eliminates up to 50% of emissions and water pollution compared to conventional viscose. In addition, the short delivery routes within northern Portugal can save further CO2 emissions.
